OD thrives through L&D




Someone recently asked me if I have experience in #organizational #development after acknowledging my vast experience in professional development #training. I asked if there was a specific area of OD that their organization wanted to focus on or was struggling with, so that I could tailor my response to that. They replied that the organization's leaders were not sure what they should focus on, so I gave an overview of what I have done and how I could help them learn what they could do to improve their organization.


Organizational Development (OD) is a broad subject that includes #strategy, systems, and research to improve an organization's effectiveness, health, and adaptability. OD focuses on aligning the organization’s structure, culture, processes, and #people with its strategic goals to drive sustainable performance and growth through planned and collaborative efforts led by organizational leaders to initiate and manage change. 


I have developed training programs and facilitated OD professional learning for a variety of clients, customized to their organizational needs, as follows:


  1. Assessment and Diagnosis - I have conducted assessments, analyzed data, and made recommendations and implemented leadership development training and offsite meeting content, specifically:

    • I have developed and delivered training on SWOT Analysis for teams and organizations on their current states, including culture, processes, and structures.

    • I have conducted workforce pulse surveys, leadership and individual strengths assessments (RightPath, CliftonStrengths, DiSC), interviews, focus groups, SWOT analysis, and organizational training audits.


  2. Strategic Planning - I have developed training content on strategic organizational communication and leadership practices through SMART Goals for teams and organizations to develop a clear vision and roadmap for organizational improvement, aligned with the overall mission and objectives


  3. Intervention Design and Implementation: - I have developed and delivered leadership development programs (new and senior leaders), team-building activities, restructuring and cultural change initiatives to address identified issues, including DEIB topics of Human Bias in Decision-Making, Building Trust in Teams, How to Handle Microaggressions at Work, Women in Leadership - Barriers and Strategies, Managing Neurodiversity in Teams, Conflict Management vs. Resolution.


  4. Change Management - I have developed and delivered leadership development program and offsite meeting content on resilience and adaptability, effective communication, employee engagement, and Kotter's balancing of Change Leadership with Change Management.


  5. Measurement and Evaluation - I have assessed the impact of OD initiatives using quantitative and qualitative metrics for employee engagement, productivity and application of L&D content, and customer satisfaction to ensure continuous improvement.


For OD to thrive, you need a strategic people leader with a track record of sustained change implementation, executive and managerial successes, and expertise in effective organizational communication.
